Motion + Video

"I Think of Demons" by Roky Erickson & the Aliens is about a troubled mind eased only by love. The characters were illustrated in Procreate. Exported to Photoshop for formatting. Rigged and animated in Adobe Character Animator. Then sequenced and stylized in After Effects and Premiere Pro.

This video was part of a special projects course. We were given an opportunity to choose a project that explores an interest that may lie outside the curriculum. I was torn between going into the graphic design and visual media programs at SCCA. I chose design, but I still have a passion for videography. My special project was creating two very different videos for two very different songs I recorded. One is a tranquil and ambient passage with accompanying video filmed downtown around Puget Sound at sunset. It was treated to look like an older piece of film.

This video is the other video for the aforementioned special project. It's the counterpoint to the more tranquil and serene video above. This one is a gonzo joyride through total pandemonium. It's built from a series of scenes from campy sci-fi and horror films spanning the decades. Each clip was treated with some heavy VFX in After Effects and carefully sequenced to move with the pounding breakbeat that drives the screaming synths of this feverish number. Further treatment in Premiere Pro added the VHS effects that give the video the feel of some hardcore bootleg dubbed half to death. Be forewarned, this one is intense.
