This poster design evolved out of an assignment to design a gig poster for a classmate. When I created the design, it worked well enough for the K-Pop group it was meant to promote. But in my head, I thought it reminded me of group Hot Chip. There was a playful, lightheartedness with the candy spilling from the disco ball as if it were a piñata. But the smashing of the disco ball invokes some mild violence. This felt akin to some of the cheeky lyrics found on songs like "The Warning." With Hot Chip on the brain, I went into a heavy listening spree of their albums. This prompted Spotify to notify me that they would be performing dual DJ sets over two nights during Seattle's Pridefest. This inspired me to dedicate this design to them.
I used Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign through the various stages of design. Photos were image traced in Illustrator after being tonally treated in Photoshop. Typographic layout was added with InDesign. This work was fueled by a Hot Chip playlist I made that absolutely bangs. I love this band.
